Niklas Rückrich | Chardonnay 2022

Straight Chardonnay from the volcanic plateau of Eckelsheim, Rheinhessen. Niklas Rückrich is the fourth generation here, farming fourteen hectares of porphyry-rich soils organically and letting the cellar run on patience: hand harvest, wild fermentation, long lees ageing in used oak, hardly any sulphur, no filtration.

Taut, mineral and saline rather than rich and buttery. Chardonnay that tastes of stone, not of oak.

Drink with: roast chicken, scallops, or hard cheese.
