Niklas Rückrich | Spatburgunder 2022

Spätburgunder is Pinot Noir with a German passport, and volcanic porphyry suits it beautifully. Niklas Rückrich, fourth generation in Eckelsheim and trained at Ziereisen in Baden and Pranzegg in South Tyrol, farms his parcels organically and gives the wine the quiet treatment: wild ferment, used oak, minimal sulphur, no filtration.

Bright red fruit over an earthy, stony base. Elegant, cool and a little brooding.

Drink with: duck, mushroom risotto, or slow Sunday cooking.
